Dear Mr. Sell,

As I was reading the Everyday Jobs newspaper, I came across a job advertisement for a senior bank clerk in your esteemed organization. I believe that I am the best applicant for this job and therefore I am applying for the same.

I have a work experience of five years in the banking industry and at this point of time, I am employed with Credit Bank as a senior clerk since a year. My role was to interact with the customers and provide accurate solutions for resolving their problems. I was also involved in creation of different type of accounts like saving and current accounts, processing the bills of customers located internationally, acceptance of cash, checks and deposits from the customers, supervising and assigning duties to the clerical staff of the bank. With my experience I have also gained much knowledge about banking and its clerical work.

I would be obliged if you arrange an interview for me. I have attached my resume for your personal reference. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

  1. I don't mind a long cover letter if it explains how the experience or training listed on the résumé is relevant to the position.

The worst cover letters I've seen offer only a mild reassurance that the person is interested in being in the profession, which in my case is K-12 education. "I have a teaching certificate and am interested in working with children" should certainly be a true statement, but it's not something to highlight in a cover letter, as it's the most basic possible qualification.

I would disagree that "I have great ___ skills" is adequate in a cover letter; I'd like some evidence, or at least information about how I might verify the claim by asking references some specific questions. "I successfully implemented ___" is useful information because it goes beyond "I went to ___ training" and is verifiable.
